NIKI DEMILLER
Composer
Niki Demiller is a French film composer based in Paris. A multi-instrumentalist with roots in Paris’s underground garage scene, he later trained in orchestration and developed a hybrid musical language bringing together neo-classical influences, electric guitars inherited from New York rock, and analogue electronic textures.
From minimalist lo-fi to more orchestral writing, his music is driven by strong melodic motifs, instrumental textures, and an unconventional approach to traditional timbres, in a lineage that notably evokes François de Roubaix. His work is often marked by melancholic colours and a narrative approach with a particular affinity for the codes and aesthetics of genre cinema.
His musical career began on stage at an early age. At 17, he opened for Iggy & The Stooges and later the Buzzcocks with his band Les Brats. This first musical life, shaped by garage rock, punk and live performance, formed the instinctive approach to composition that he would gradually bring into his work for film. With Les Brats, he later collaborated with Yann Gonzalez on a live performance accompanying the short film Je vous hais petites filles, selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
After training in orchestral writing and turning his focus to composing for the moving image, Demiller developed his work across fiction, documentary and sound creation. In 2024, he received the SACEM Award for Best Original Music at the Paris Podcast Festival for Une Étoile Rouge Ne Meurt Jamais for the Paris Olympic Games. He also created the original music and sonic identity for Phantasia, an ARTE Studio series exploring the relationship between artificial intelligence and contemporary creation.
His score for Laurence Garret and Juan Manuel Sepúlveda’s Une arme à la main, j’ai traversé le désert earned him a nomination for the Sony Avant-Son Award at the Sœurs Jumelles festival. The feature documentary was subsequently selected in competition at Cinéma du Réel 2026 and at DocsMX. He also composed the score for Mariame N’Diaye’s Sira, produced by Golgota Productions, for which he was selected as one of the Talents of La Fête du Court Métrage. The film received the Best Francophone Film Award at Dakar Court. He later reunited with Golgota Productions for Xavier Demoulin’s Jusqu’au bout, winner of the Grand Prix at HLM sur Court(s).
In 2026, he composed the score for Paolo Borraccetti’s feature documentary Pinocchio, il bambino del mondo, produced for ARTE and RAI and selected for the 2026 Rome Film Fest. He also composed the original score for Pauline Portugal’s Sous la Grande Ourse, produced by To Be Continued and Silverbelt Films in partnership with Canal+, and served as a jury member at Trouville Film Festival and the Phoenix Rising International Film Festival in London.
He is represented by Raphaël Vinzant at Time Art Music.
